Weingut Oekonomierat Geil

Home. Craft. Philosophy.
No show. No marketing noise.

Rheinhessen is our home. Where cool climate meets terroir, our Rieslings and Burgundy wines are born. Since 1871, we have lived in Bechtheim with a clear vision for the future.

We want to show how, with effort, time, and based on tradition and technical innovations, sophisticated wines are created that are contemporary, delicious, and individual.

Our philosophy combines a consistent focus on quality with a high degree of manual work and sensitivity

History Lived.
Oekonomierat Johann Geil.

In 1871, Georg Geil bought the ancestral home near the former village border. It was his son Johann Geil who was one of the first in Bechtheim to bottle wine.

He not only showed foresight and entrepreneurial spirit in wine, but he was also a co-founder of the Raiffeisenbank, the goods cooperative, and served as mayor of Bechtheim for many years.

Due to his special and diverse commitment to the citizens and the community of Bechtheim, he was awarded the honorary title of "Oekonomierat" (Councilor of Economics) by the Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine. The winery has borne his name ever since.

Conscious Sustainability.
Conscious Indulgence.

We are FAIR CHOICE certified. In the vineyard, we focus on gentle, environmentally conscious cultivation. This includes targeted cover cropping to promote biodiversity, minimal soil cultivation, and encouraging healthy soil life.

In the cellar, we work energy-efficiently and resource-conservingly. We prioritize short distances, modern technology with low energy consumption, and the conscious use of water and cleaning agents.

For packaging and shipping, too, we prefer environmentally friendly solutions – from lightweight glass to recycled cardboard. Our sustainability certification confirms our daily actions – and at the same time motivates us to become even better. Because for us, sustainability does not mean stagnation, but a continuous process where tradition and innovation go hand in hand.

We are a member of WINE IN MODERATION. For conscious enjoyment out of conviction.
