Our story began in 1871, when Georg Geil purchased the family estate on what was then the edge of the village of Bechtheim. The foundation of today’s winery, however, was laid by his son, Johann Geil.
Among the first winemakers in Bechtheim to bottle his own wines, Johann combined vision, courage and entrepreneurial spirit. His commitment reached far beyond viticulture: he co-founded the local Raiffeisen bank and agricultural cooperative, and served his community as mayor for many years.
In recognition of his outstanding service, the Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine awarded him the honorary title Oekonomierat. More than a historic distinction, it represents the values that continue to guide us today: responsibility, uncompromising quality and the ambition to build on tradition with foresight.

We are proudly FAIR CHOICE certified. In our vineyards, we follow a thoughtful and environmentally responsible approach, encouraging biodiversity through targeted cover crops, minimising soil cultivation and nurturing healthy, living soils.
In the cellar, we focus on energy efficiency and the careful use of resources. Short transport routes, modern low-energy technology and the mindful use of water and cleaning agents are all part of our daily work.
From lightweight glass bottles to recyclable packaging, we also strive for more sustainable solutions in shipping and logistics. Our FAIR CHOICE certification reflects the standards we set ourselves every day—and inspires us to keep improving. Because to us, sustainability is not a destination, but an ongoing journey where tradition and innovation go hand in hand.
